In America, Who Carries the Risk of Retirement?

Hosted by

Steve Boese

About this episode

Financial knowledge helps people make smarter decisions about money. However, financial literacy cannot create money that a household does not have.

In fact, building a nest egg takes many years. Turning those savings into reliable income brings significant challenges. For instance, market swings, inflation, policy shifts, and unexpected care needs impact every family. No single household can predict or control all of these factors.

Consequently, individual workers carry a heavy burden of retirement risk today. Therefore, we must ask how society can share these financial responsibilities more fairly.

In Part 2 of our series, Steve examines how retirement risk impacts American families. Additionally, he explores better ways for employers and leaders to share these costs.

The HR Happy Hour Network is proudly supported by our friends at Workhuman.
Here’s a wild stat: 6 in 10 employees have never been meaningfully recognized for a work anniversary.
Think about that. Five, 10, 20 years of someone’s life — and too often, the moment falls flat.
Workhuman’s Service Milestones® makes recognition more personal, memorable, and impactful. Milestone tracking happens automatically through your HRIS, the right colleagues are inspired to share stories and congratulations, and employees get access to rewards they actually want.
